Wander Convention Fentum Factor
Wander Convention Fentum Factor
THE FENTUM FACTOR
1. The Fentum Factor is a European think tank and mobile brigade of artists and scholars, active in the field of contemporary living arts. The impetus is the ancient and unsolvable question: how much delusion and program is contained in our perception/projection of the world?
The oeuvre of the Polish count Jan Nepomuk Potocki - more specifically the ‘Saragossa Manuscript’- is the locus classicus of the enterprise: a vast playground of inspiration and a perpetuum mobile for performances, installations and interventions.
2. The group draws its name from a naively spelled indication on a makeshift road map: ‘to fentum vilage’. An abandoned settlement (ghost town) being the goal of a journey on foot (a ‘wander-convention’) in the course of which the foundations of the present mission were discussed.
One of the trademarks of The Fentum Factor is its peripatetic character and the profound belief that the activity of walking (wandering, roaming, strolling, stalking) produces a perspicuous and eloquent state of mind.
3. The wander-conventions are conceived as creative tours through an immense and ever metamorphosing landscape of human artefacts. The members of The Fentum Factor walk outdoors and indoors, rambling the urban and the rural. Their paths lead through museums and markets, public and private affairs, festivals and happenings, black boxes and white cubes, political situations and popular movements, scientific experiments and ecological disasters, immersive installations and conceptual art. On foot, these ‘objectivations of the real’ are contemplated, commented and linked to their archetypal shapes, patterns or ideas.
4. The Fentum Factor thus investigates, both theoretically and practically, the fundamental links between the referential use of artistic expression and our chaotic human experience.
Individual reference locates us in our own corner of the cosmos. General reference is our main tool in affirmating the intelligible patterns of the real.
Echoing these references through artistic (aesthetic) play, The Fentum Factor endeavours to warp our ways of imagining (dreaming up) the human condition.
5. The collectif organizes poetical, playful and provocatif interventions within the bounderies of public and private spaces: the theatre stage, the gallery, the auditorium, the church, the political arena or any forum (virtual and physical) of human reflexion, discours and expression.
The performances of The Fentum Factor try to shed a distorting light on human affairs and to comment the perceived reality with semantico-philosophical metaphores.
6. The Fentum Factor is a mobile and multi-centered organisation, funded by The Culture Programme of the European Union. It aspires to create world-wide alliances with sibling-groups and performing artists.
